Bhumi Pednekar opens up about pay disparity, reveals actresses were expected to take pay cuts due to the COVID pandemic but not male stars | Hindi Movie News

Bhumi Pednekar recently opened up about the pay disparity in Bollywood. She revealed that actresses were expected to take pay cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic but no such requests were made to her male co-stars.

In an interview with a news portal, Bhumi said that most people realised that the pandemic had hit them only when they had a female-led film that they were supporting. The actress stated that she never heard of any producer going to her male co-stars and asking them to take a pay cut. However, it’s expected from all women, which she feels is ridiculous.

Bhumi is currently riding high on the success of her last film, ‘Badhaai Do’ co-starring Rajkummar Rao. Directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni, Bhumi essayed the role of a closeted lesbian, who enters into a marriage of convenience with Rajkummar Rao’s character Shardul Thakur, a homosexual police inspector.

The actress has been receiving positive reviews from the audience for her character and the film. Reacting to the same, Bhumi said in a statement, “In the digital age, you get feedback in an instant because of social media and my phone hasn’t stopped buzzing due to all the lovely praise for the film and my performance from people who are getting moved by the subject of ‘Badhaai Do’. We wanted to highlight a reality that exists so that people can rally together and request for a necessary change to happen.”
